Prof. Brendan Stack, MD, Jr., Chair, Endocrine Surgery Section, American Head and Neck Society (2021-2023), highlights the importance of AI tools in thyroidology:

’AI will be employed for predictive, diagnostic, and screening purposes for thyroid diseases. This may result in improved disease diagnosis, mitigating diagnostic uncertainty, particularly in challenging domains (cytology and pathology), improved thyroid nodule diagnosis that may reduce unnecessary surgery, and better physician performance. AI models used in surgery may help with decision-making pre- and intra-operatively, as well as in disease risk prediction. As a result, AI may lead to a more personalized treatment and improved disease management.’

📌 AI holds the promise to improve the way thyroid patients will be screened, diagnozed, treated, and monitored.

📌 Future research should prioritize the development of accurate and efficient AI algorithms and the improvement of data quality and access to enhance patient outcomes and overall healthcare quality.
