The current management of thyroid disorders is not optimal. 15% of patients with hypothyroidism may have persistent residual symptoms that result in:

🔹reduced quality of life
🔹impaired productivity
🔹tiredness
🔹brain fog

Heart rate, heart rhythm, and sleep quality are influenced by the thyroid
dysfunction and could be measured by wearable devices and smartwatches.

Hyperthyroidism:
is associated with a higher heart rate and sleep dysfunction

Hypothyroidism:
is associated with a lower heart rate, and may affect overall sleep quality

As Roko Granić, TFI Board Member, Nuclear Medicine Specialist, highlights:

’Wearable monitoring devices could, in the near future, offer valuable data for thyroid patients. These devices, such as smartwatches, could check heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, sleep patterns, and other specific parameters to help promptly detect patient status. This information could be sent remotely in real-time to a medical professional managing patients’ conditions, such as hypo- or hyperthyroidism. This could act as an early warning mechanism as well as chronic patient monitoring. At this moment, further improvement of existing monitoring methods is needed to be particularly specific to thyroid conditions.’
